Diogenes, painted here, is by someone named Bastien-Lepage, from a couple hundred years ago. I’d like to do a classical figure study like this. It’s humble on color and I think shading here, ‘sculpting’ the figure in paint would be enjoyable. Diogenese lived in a barrel and is credited as being the first of the ‘cynics’. He abhorred writing, I’m told, but authored some philosophy books himself.
His focus was on self control. He was famous for carrying a lamp around in the day telling people he was looking for ‘an honest personality’. He remained nude, and allegedly lived on a diet of onions. No, I don’t think he was interested in being liked. He called himself a dog.
